Appalachian Trail - Sam Dalton
The Annual "Trail Magic Cookout" for the Appalachian hikers was held on Saturday, April 28th at Chestoa Park in Erwin, TN. Members from Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jonesborough set up a large cooker and some tables and chairs to accommodate the hikers. Hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixins' along with covered dishes were served to about 120 or so hikers. The hikers were also given granola bars and trail mix snacks to take along with them on their journey. We also handed out tracts and devotional material for them to read.
This was a good opportunity to spread the Gospel and to just let the hikers know that we care for them just like Jesus cares for them. All of them were very appreciative and let us know how much it meant to them.
The number of hikers was down from last year due to the Blue Grass Festival that was being held at the same time. But...the ones that did show up were glad they did! There were hikers from Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania and even Australia and New Zealand!
The day started out very cloudy and it looked like rain was coming - but by the time the event started - there was blue sky everywhere - Praise the Lord!
